CDM 2015 SEMINARS, TRAINING AND THE PRINCIPAL DESIGNER ROLE

We are continuing to deliver updates to our clients on the changes and have had some really interesting discussions on how people see the changes working. The main area of discussion is around the role Principal Designer.  It is increasingly obvious that a large proportion of the companies we work with are asking us to either act as PD on projects or to support them in the role of PD.  The key issue is the definition of the Principal Designer which is “an organisation or, on smaller projects, an individual with the following:-

  • a technical knowledge of the construction industry relevant to the project
  • an understanding of how health and safety is managed through the design process
  • the skills to be able oversee health and safety during the pre-construction phase of the project and the ongoing design”

The 6 month transition period will at least allow a bit of breathing space!
