ASBESTOS – NEW HOPE FOR CANCER CURE USING IMMUNOLOGY
ASBESTOS: NEW HOPE FOR CANCER CURE
It is very sobering to realise that asbestos-related diseases are still
causing 3000-4000 premature deaths every year – similar to the number of road
deaths in the UK.
Cancers such as mesothelioma originate from the inhalation of airborne asbestos
fibres – often years or decades previously. Current awareness, practice and
legislation have drastically reduced the risk of exposure but the number of
people who’s health is affected remain high. Cures for such cancers are highly
sought after and with one in two of us likely to suffer from any kind of cancer
at some point during our lives, could well help us as individuals.
Current practice has been to restrict the progression of cancers using
chemotherapy and radiotherapy to destroy cells but immunology has been shown to
have remarkable potential.
Immunology stimulates selected immune system cells within your own body to seek
and destroy cancer cells.
The Universities of Southampton and Leicester have collaborated in trials of a
particular drug which has resulted in half of patients with hard to treat
cancers enjoying and improvement and 20% becoming cancer free. This gives great
hope for developing cures and therapies. For more information, see the
University of Southampton Press
Release or see their website which
has a great video of killer ‘T-Cells’ seeking, entering and destroying cancer
cells.
In the meantime, prevention remains much better than cure – if you need
to know more about how to make yourself, colleagues or workers safer, please
call BSA to discuss Asbestos Awareness.
BSA does not do asbestos surveys or remove asbestos but can advise what is
required and why.
